Hey there! Happy almost weekend to you! It’s your favorite plant-based advocate LA from Black Girls Eat just checking in with ya. So how was your week? If you saw my last IG reel, you know that I had a crazy moment with a veggie sandwich. That reel took 5 seconds to create and has over 12K views. The reels that take an hour to make are only seen a few hundred times. Too funny.
I was finally able to get up to the Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture. I had a great visit and came home with some tomatoes, eggplants and lettuce that I will be planting this weekend. I cannot believe how much satisfaction I get from gardening. As a stone cold New York City girl, I could have never imagined how much I would love it.
Check out what I had to say about gardening in this blog post: https://blackgirlseat.com/planting-a-garden-took-self-care-to-new-level/
Of course I Google everything so look at what I found after searching for benefits of gardening:
It's been shown to lighten mood and lower levels of stress and anxiety. It's very gratifying to plant, tend, harvest and share your own food. Routines provide structure to our day and are linked to improved mental health. Gardening routines, like watering and weeding, can create a soothing rhythm to ease stress.
So if you have a windowsill, a back step or even a backyard….consider planting something and see if it makes a difference in your life.

The Random: Real Estate and Generational Wealth Activation in Brooklyn May 12-13
Calling all soon to be ballers and shot callers. This weekend, Black Girls Eat is curating light meals and snacks for the first ever From the Ground Up: Flipping the Hood Activation.
This is a different kind of gardening. The seeds planted this weekend will grow into fresh new ideas and opportunities for people who typically don’t have a seat at the table or a key to the room.
This community focused initiative brings together professionals and entrepreneurs of color in mental health, real estate development, finance, art, culture, technology, wellness, education, sports, investments, politics, and entertainment and will provide opportunities for the community at large but especially students and young people of color, to be exposed to education and career pathways where minority representation is woefully low.
