Hey there! Tik Tok is supposedly going dark on Sunday (January 19). I have asked all 1,548 of my followers there to visit me at the Black Girls Eat website. As creators, the one thing we truly own is our website so no matter what social media platform goes dark—we can always stay connected to our community.
If you are reading this issue of the Recipes & Random-ish newsletter, that means you signed up for it or I met you somewhere and signed you up personally. I love it. You have chosen to be here and I have chosen to be here for you!
Oh yeah, my name is LA like Los Angeles and I am a plant-based advocate. That means I believe in the power of fruits, grains and vegetables and I can show you how to get more of them on your plate. I am also studying to become a nutritionist. How about that!?
How have the first 3 weeks of the New Year been? For me, I am still participating in Veganuary. It’s been 18 days without any animal products. I’m also participating in Dry January so it’s been 18 days without any alcohol. Sounds crazy to some but I feel great. I am also saving a lot of money! lol
The Recipe: Dairy Free Caramel Popcorn
Yass! It’s NFL Playoff season and snacks are a must! You can make this recipe with traditional butter or vegan butter. This recipe needs just 1/2 cup of plant-based or vegan butter. Did you know that in the 1800s, Cracker Jack meant top-rated or world-class?
The Random: MLK Service and the Plant-Powered Kids Fest
Monday, January 20 is MLK Day. There are many ways to honor Martin Luther King, Jr. The federal holiday became official in 1983. In 1994, Congress made it a national day of service. If you are in the NYC area, consider checking out the opportunities to serve at NYC Service. Volunteers are needed this weekend and all year long.
Want to stay at home? Sure…check out the link below and watch a series of videos that take you beyond the I Have a Dream Speech.
