The Black Girls Eat Holiday Gift Guide
Some really cool gift ideas for the really cool people in your life.
Well hello there! It’s your favorite plant-based advocate, LA from Black Girls Eat!
Okay so there are years when I don’t buy any gifts for anyone over 12. I feel like kids expect and deserve to be surprised. Well, most kids. Gift giving is weird for me from year to year. I’m not really crafty so I never got the hang of making candles. I enjoy cooking but you won’t find me filling cellophane bags with tons of homemade caramel popcorn.
You are shocked right? Don’t be. I am all about helping people get more fruits, vegetables and grains on their plate. I love helping people make healthier food choices. But that does not mean that I am churning my own butter, winning scrap booking awards or up-stitching my wardrobe. It’s funny how many people I meet that automatically think I’m the Jane of all things homey.
But back to gifts. I am excited about sharing this list of gift ideas with you. It’s the first time I ever shared a list. Hi-Five for a first annual Black Girls Eat Holiday Gift Guide! In reality, I am buying gifts for everyone this year. Yeah…I’m feeling generous and thankfully, I’ve found some goodies that won’t break the bank. You will find that this list includes mostly small businesses and those owned by members of the BIPOC community. I hope that you support these companies and please note that not one of them is paying me for this shout out.
So let’s get to it. Here is the Black Girls Eat 2022 Holiday Gift Guide!
Brooklyn Tea
I had my first sip of Brooklyn Tea at the Black Vegan Festival in Brooklyn a few years ago. I would have tried all of the teas but I stepped aside and behaved myself. Lots of flavors to get into from Vanilla Roobios to Cucumber Melon Green. You can grab a Tea Gift Box, an Immunity Booster Box and a fancy Deluxe Gift Box that includes a branded ceramic mug and a stainless steal infuser basket. If you are in the ATL…be sure to check them out as they just opened the Atlanta Tea Room. On IG @brooklyntea
Farmacy for Life
Legendary rapper, Styles P of the also legendary group The Lox and his wife Adjua Styles are the owners of Farmacy for Life. I love that they make it plain on their website. They launched in order to help others improve brain health, manage weight, reduce risk of disease and strengthen bones and muscles.
And this is not the first entry into the wellness space for the team. They launched Juices for Life with the same intention. I’m so glad that there are 2 in my neighborhood. My favorite is the Bronx Special of course! But back to the online health store. Shop for bundles to boost your immune system, help you sleep better and more. On IG @farmacyforlife
Healthy On You
I love love love the names of the spice mixes from Healthy On You. Fish You Were Here, No Woman No Spice and Here Comes the Yum are just a few fun examples. The gifts come with three spices and they are shipped in a wooden box. Check out the Spice Up the Holidays set which features Hit the Roast Jack, Fennel Countdown and I’m Still Brinin. Visit the website to shop and don’t forget to check out the inspiring recipes. On IG @healthyonyou
Yolélé Foods
Chef Pierre Thiam is world wide famous for his restaurants but he is also responsible for bringing Fonio to my dinner table. Fonio is an ancient gluten free West African grain which can be described as the perfect protein. It has replaced many of my dishes that call for quinoa. But Fonio is just where it started. The company now has so much more to offer.
Visit the website to check out their African Spice Rub and Dip Mix Trio. For that really special someone (including yourself), check out the Taste of Senegal Gift Set. It includes an autographed copy of Senegal: Modern Senegalese Recipes from the Source to the Bowl by Chef Pierre Thiam, 1 bag of Fonio, and 2 bags of Fonio Pilaf. On IG @yolelefoods
Zach and Zoe
I never saw a jar of honey that I didn’t love. My Secret Santa asked for anything sweet from a Black owned company. Welp! I hopped on over to the website for The Zach and Zoe Sweet Bee Farm and got excited. I love that they started their company to help their son navigate asthma and allergies. My daughter suffers the same. My Secret Santa is definitely getting the Honey Sampler with 3 flavors of Wildflower Honey. I was going to order online but discovered that they are right here in NYC at the Chelsea Market in Manhattan. So I can pick up my gift and bring it right to the holiday party. On IG @zachandzoe
