Rickea Jackson, Women’s Health, and What I Learned at the SheMedia Co-Lab at SXSW
On Day 2 at the SheMedia Co-Lab at SXSW, conversations around women’s health, performance nutrition, and recovery were everywhere — and I had a fun moment with WNBA athlete Rickea Jackson
On Day 2 at the SheMedia Co-Lab at SXSW, discussions centered on women’s health, performance, recovery, and the future of wellness for women.
One highlight was experiencing the activation from Thorne, which offered attendees strawberry Boost creatine smoothies, chocolate Vitality protein smoothies, and conversations about women’s performance across different life stages. The smoothies were the most popular moment all day as it was 91 degrees in Austin! Thorne also shared samples from their line of products including creatine, amino complex, electrolytes, and magnesium. All I can say is, everyone loves a sample!
The message was clear: understanding what your body needs helps it perform at its best. At Black Girls Eat, I always return to this foundation — food first.
Plant-forward nutrition remains central to long-term health. Fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes support energy, heart health, and recovery.
Perhaps supplements can play a supportive role when used intentionally and in context with a balanced diet? Today’s conversation definitely got me thinking.
Meeting Rickea Jackson of the Los Angeles Sparks was awesome. She was kind enough to hook me up with a message about the power of fruits, grains and vegetables. She is also celebrating her 25th birthday today so Happy Birthday Sis! Check out her video below.
And One More Thing….
Women’s health deserves attention year-round. Prevention, recovery, and nutrition all matter.
