Ready for Veganuary 2026? A Simple Guide + Why You Should Subscribe
New Year, New You Boo!
Whew! We did it. We took the Good, the Bad and the Worst of 2025 and we are still standing. January is a time for re-sets, re-minders and re-invention. That’s what I love about Veganuary. It’s 31 days of opportunity to explore recipes without meat, dairy or seafood. If you’re here reading this, you might already know a little about Veganuary, but maybe you’re wondering: What does this really look like? And how do I even start?
I originally shared this post over on the Black Girls Eat website and I want to bring a version here to Substack because not everyone is every where and I want everyone to learn more about the Veganuary challenge.
If you want the full post, head over to the Black Girls Eat website to read the original “Veganuary: Five Things You Need to Know About It.” It’s packed with beginner-friendly information and lifestyle definitions.
What Is Veganuary All About?
It’s a simple concept. Veganuary is a global challenge that encourages people to try vegan and plant-based recipes for the month of January. It’s not about perfection. It’s about exploration. If you have spent anytime with me then you know I’m not here for the stress. We each have to shop, cook and eat at our own level. For some, it will be one animal product free meal a day. For others it may be all day every day for 31 days. Each approach is welcomed. No judgement.
Why This Matters for You
I founded Black Girls Eat because I believe food should be joyful, nourishing, and rooted in our full selves—- not restrictive or confusing.
Choosing more plant-based meals can support:
Energy and digestion
Balanced blood sugar
Heart health
Long-term wellbeing
As a Black woman, I know that we face higher rates of chronic conditions like heart disease and diabetes. What’s awesome is that we can be proactive and add more nutrient rich foods to our plates to fight the battle against chronic diseases.
