It's Thursday!
Butternut Squash and Yams, Black Entrepreneurs Day and Scotch Bonnet Pepper Infused Olive Oil
Happy Friday Eve! So glad that we are here together. My name is LA and I’m a plant-based advocate. That means I love helping people put more plants on their plate. New fruits, new grains, and new vegetables are waiting to be discovered. I also have a good time remixing some of the foods that I grew up with. I’m a Bronx girl, my family is from the south and hubby’s family is from Barbados. That’s a whole lot of culture and whole lot of flavor!
I created this newsletter as a way to stay connected with people that I’ve met either in person or online. I love sharing all that I’m learning about saving money, shopping for plant-based foods and re-inventing how my family is experiencing food. I also think this is a great place to give you a BTS look at the Black Girls Eat life that I am living.
The Recipe: Butternut Squash and Yams
It’s time to put a new twist on an old favorite. If you are a fan of candied yams, wait until you add butternut squash to your recipe. Made with simple ingredients, this dish has fall written all over it.
The Random: Black Entrepreneurs Day at the Apollo Theater in NYC
As a small business owner, I was thrilled to attend the Black Entrepreneurs Day event at the Apollo Theater last week. Hosted by co-founder of FUBU and Mr. Black Shark Tank himself, Daymond John…..the night was epic. So many inspirational moments from Whoopi Goldberg, Anthony Anderson, Cedric the Entertainer, Flava Flav and Ice T.
The most exciting moment of the night for me was watching Dr. Corrie Amos win 25K to further the development of her company The Spice Theory. I met Dr. Corrie at a pop up brunch and brought a whole box of her spices home. I’m a fan of the scotch bonnet pepper infused olive oil. Check out her shop to get yours.
