So How About Saving Some Money?
Grocery prices are off the chain right now. Almost everything is double what it cost last year. I cringe when I look at just how little goes into the shopping cart these days. So here are three tips to help you navigate the next trip to the market.
Double up on meal ideas. You can do it. As you consider your meals, think of foods that can be used more than once. You can buy a can of chickpeas and make hummus and roasted chickpeas. Grab a bag of sweet potatoes and roast a few and then use the rest of them to make sweet potato chips.
Shop the circular! I used to throw them away. I actually thought they were annoying. That is until the grocery prices started going bananas. Give it try. Flip through the weekly circular to shop for new plant-based food products and to take advantage of the foods that you love that just might be on sale. Remember, the freezer is the perfect friend for an over stuffed grocery bag.
Buy Big or Go Home! While shopping I noticed that the mini bagels cost more than the full size bagels. The mini bowls of rice cost more per pound than a bag of rice. We are paying a great price for the convenience of foods we love in small packages. Do yourself a favor. Buy the larger version and store the extras in the fridge or freezer.
The Recipe: Vegan Tostadas
Traditional Mexican tostadas are corn tortillas that have been baked or fried and then blessed with a variety of toppings. Visit the website to learn how to make them with just about anything in the fridge!
The Random: Addicted to Kitchen Gadgets
Put me in a Target, Bed Bath and Beyond or Walmart and it’s a wrap. I am addicted to kitchen gadgets. When I first discovered spiralizers, I bought 3. I swear I spiralized everything for weeks. I also love all kinds of measuring spoons and spatulas. Last week I bought an avocado slicer and a set of mini bowls. Why? Because they were so cute!
