Hey there! It’s your favorite plant-based advocate LA from Black Girls Eat coming through on a Thursday to say “Heyyyyy.” How are ya? Did you discover any new plant-based foods this week? I finally got my lettuce into the garden. I’m excited about that because lettuce grows so fast. We save a lot of money by planting. I’m new to gardening. I started in 2021 but then I forgot last spring. Lol.
This year, I’m on it because grocery prices are crazy. I can tell you that I am looking forward to not buying lettuce, spinach, basil or tomatoes. Anyone else gardening?
The business of adding more plants to your plate is one that I take seriously. When I say plants, I mean vegetables, fruits and grains. Before I started doing it automatically, I had to write it down. There was something so powerful about seeing just how few veggies, fruits and grains were making it to my plate.
Groundbreaking research shows that a plant-based diet doesn’t just prevent heart disease but that it can manage and sometimes even reverse it.
The research around the benefits of adding more plants to your plate cannot be denied. Check out these articles and see for yourself. Share with anyone in your life that needs this message. It’s not a fairy tale. Real people are making real changes one plate at a time.

The Recipe: Hummus
Six letters and so much goodness. I used to spend so much money on hummus. That’s until I learned to make it myself. On a recent trip to the store, I saw that one container of hummus cost almost 6 bucks. Besides being a low cost item, chickpeas offer a great amount of fiber which helps us to feel satisfied. Hummus and tortilla chips are one of my fave go to snacks. Forget about the store bought stuff. Make your own! It’s easy!
The Random: Shopping at Trader Joe’s
I’m not sure if everyone here has seen my Instagram Reel about my mad capped adventures at Trader Joe’s. It was my first time and it was a whirlwind. I know there are die-hard fans out there but I have to tell you, I’m not a fan yet. I don’t know if there were any real deals there. People on IG raved to me about the prices so I have to go back and do some investigating. Want to know more about my experience? Check out the blog post at the Black Girls Eat Website.
