Hello There!
I want to thank you for sharing your email address. When all of the IG, Tik-Tok and YouTube videos go away, it’s nice to know that we can be old school and stay connected. I would imagine that you signed up via the Black Girls Eat Website and you might be wondering what happened to me. If you are honest, you might have even thought that I would flood your inbox with junk emails. But it hasn’t happened right? That’s because I’ve not been quite sure what I wanted to write about. You know? I had to figure out my why.
This Newsletter is All About You
Once I figured out that I wanted to create a newsletter that would educate and entertain….I was ready to rock. I want to be your partner on your food journey. I am a plant-based advocate. That means I am encouraging you to put more plants on your plate. That’s it. No tricks, no gimmicks.
In the past 4 years, I’ve met so many people who want to make different food choices. I used to be a classroom teacher and a middle school assistant principal. The educator in me loves sharing what I have learned about everything from super foods to whole foods. I don’t have all the answers but boy have I learned a lot from the community. Vegans, Vegetarians and so many others have held my hand along the way. That’s what the Black Girls Eat community is all about. No judgement. I don’t even count calories but we’ll have to get to that in another newsletter!
So What Exactly Does That Mean?
That means that I plan to send a new post out every 7-10 days. I would say weekly but that sounds like pressure. lol. Seriously. Between the 12 year old, the husband, the dog, the full time job and everything else, I can’t make any guarantees. If we are gonna be cool, I just gotta keep it funky with you and let you know what my deal is.
And I expect you to do the same. I welcome your comments, feedback and love. If I write something that you think someone else could benefit from, please share it.

The Recipe: Cranberry Sauce
Hoping that you all had a wonderful day of Food, Family and Football. In case you ran out of the canned jelly stuff, check out the recipe for homemade Cranberry Sauce from the Black Girls Eat Website. Fresh cranberries won the Tik Tok poll so let me know if you prefer the canned or the fresh versions. It’s quite a battle!
The Random: The Apollo Theater
Sooooo when I was in high school, I was in a singing group called Lipstick. Ha! I don’t even think I knew how to wear lipstick until many years later! I also wasn’t a singer. I probably was more like the rapper in the trio. One day, our manager arranged for us to make a guest appearance at the Apollo Theater for Amateur Night. The Apollo is legendary for its audience. You might think you have talent but THEY will let you know if you do. Anyway, we were not competing in Amateur Night. We were “Special Guests.” So we ran up on stage to do a quick song and all hell broke loose. Within 15 seconds, two hundred people were booing and yelling at us. I was in the back smiling, my face frozen and doing my two step. Our lead singer (poor girl) just soldiered on. I still remember the woman in the front row yelling and waving her umbrella. She kept saying, “Get off the damn stage!” I laugh now but jeesshhh….
Thanks so much for reading. If you have time this weekend, check out my interview on The Safe Conversations Podcast HERE.
